Bio

Welcome to our bio page! We are fortunate to live at a time when the world is merely at our fingertips! People have asked us for a bio page and so that is what we are going to give you!

My name is Anne Biris. I am an acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist. My journey with TCM, Traditional Chinese Medicine, started with acupuncture school at 18 years old and since then that is all I have been doing. It is my life and my passion and my joy to be able to share it with others. I have been practicing in Michigan and working closely with Dr. Kraynek for the past 13 years in Canton.

In May of 2010 I opened another office in Dearborn. Cate joined me there as my assistant and without her, I would be a little lost as she is a whiz at putting together all the media publications for the office.

I have to say in retrospect that thankfully I am a very different person than I was at 21. My journey in TCM has made it clear in my heart that this is the only thing that I am meant to do. Like I have told many patients "If I can't do TCM, I might as well just hang up my hat and go fishing", meaning I don't know what I would do. Thankfully it has been rewarding way beyond my expectations, and promises to get even better as I develop as a person and gain more skills as a practitioner. Truthfully, even after over 15 years of practicing I feel that I have just begun to scratch the depths of the beauty in this medicine.

Currently I have two teachers, Lonny Jarrett and Herman Oving who have been tremendous in shaping how I practice now.

Lonny Jarrett is well known and respected in our profession. He has over 30 years of experience, written books and numerous articles and is one of the sharpest and kindest people I have ever met. He has taught me the value of 5 element style acupuncture, pulse diagnosis and more importantly, volumes about what it means to be a better person, with integrity and unwavering focus. I have been involved in his two year class, Clinical Integration held in Massachusetts. He has formed a wonderful community of TCM practitioners committed to pushing Chinese medicine to the furthest it can possibly go. They can be found on www.nourishingdestiny.com.

Herman Oving is my Chinese character/language teacher. Herman is a sinologist who specializes in Chinese Medical characters and a wonderfully patient teacher. I have been studying with him for the past year and if it weren't for him I would never have gained the interest and foresight to study the classics in the Chinese language that form the foundation of TCM. Merely through the translation of an ancient language that brings us back thousands of years sometimes brings tears to my eyes at the complexity and yet at the same time the beauty that lies in wait to be discovered. Only a quarter of our classic texts have been properly translated, and what is left is still yet to be absorbed into our Western culture. I am humbled by my lack of knowledge in these books and that is why I have continued to study with Herman.

The latest venture has actually been a realization of a dream that I have had for as long as I can remember and that is to bring TCM to parts of the world where suffering and poverty are beyond what we can imagine in the comforts of our American homes. When I heard about Walter Fischer and that he was looking for volunteers in his clinics in India, I knew right away that this is what I want to do. After numerous skyping and emails, we made plans for my visit in January of 2011. I have seen pictures through his facebook page and his website and still I can only imagine what life must be like.... I am grateful for this tremendous opportunity and hope that I will have a lot to share when I return. And I hope that this will be the first of many trips....

There is so much to share... But really if you want to know me stop by the office and say hello!
